Access Statement for The Globe, Topsham

Introduction

Located in the centre of Topsham, just 4 miles from Exeter, the Globe has recently undergone a sympathetic renovation. The result is a comfortable blend of old and new, creating an atmosphere which is relaxed, informal and individual. Decorated with rich textures and colours the relaxing interiors ooze character – sit back, relax and enjoy specialty coffees, fine wine and award winning ales. Enticing menus have an emphasis on local produce with daily-changing specials making the most of fresh ingredients. The boutique style bedrooms come in all shapes and sizes. Each room is stylish and inviting, with divinely comfortable Vi-Spring beds – free WIFI connectivity is standard throughout. Topsham has a village atmosphere yet all the benefits of being part of the City of Exeter; well served by both rail and bus routes but with river trips and countryside walks on the doorstep. Pre-Arrival

Directions by car

  • From the M5 junction 30 take the A379 to Countess Wear – signposted to Topsham. Then at roundabout take the B3182 to Topsham. In Topsham at mini roundabout go straight across into Fore Street. The Globe is 500m on left hand side.
  • Car parking is very limited and can be used for loading and unloading. Please note there is restricted access into the car park on both entrances, we recommend you enter the car park via Globefields which is at the rear of the Inn. The management cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage of property or vehicles when entering or left in the car park. By public transport

  • Topsham is well served by public transport. Buses run frequently to Topsham from Exeter and Exmouth. The “T” bus stops on Topsham Quay.
  • Topsham railway station is a 15-minute walk from the Globe and there are trains to Exeter, Exmouth and further afield around every 30 minutes.

By plane

  • Exeter International Airport is approximately 15 minutes’ drive away.

By Bike

  • Topsham is located on the Route 2 national cycle network. We are a great destination to cycle to.

Car Parking and Arrival

  • Car parking is very limited and can be used for loading and unloading. Please note there is restricted access into the car park on both entrances, we recommend you enter the car park via Globefields which is at the rear of the Inn. The management cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage of property or vehicles when entering or left in the car park. There are pay and display car parks in close proximity which are very reasonably priced. For more details, please contact Reception on 01392 873 471.
  • The car park surface leading to the side entrance is tarmac with no curbs.
  • The car park is well lit at night.
  • There is a drop off point at the side entrance of the pub.
  • There are two small steps leading to the main entrance and no steps to the side entrance. A portable ramp is available for the front door – please ask member of staff or request assistance in advance.
  • The main entrance and side entrance doors are manual; both are 815mm (back door) & 745mm (front door) wide, of medium weight to push and open inwards.

 

Bar & Bar Area and Dining Area/Restaurant

  • The bar and restaurant are situated on the ground floor. Entry to the restaurant is by a low gradient ramp.
  • Both the bar and restaurant have level access throughout although there is a step down (160mm) in the bar if you wish to access the area near the fireplace.
  • There is no lowered section of the bar. Drinks & food can also be ordered at the table on request.
  • Both the bar and the restaurant have a mixture of upright chairs with and without arms and tables are well spaced apart, with a clear height from the floor of 715mm/24ins.
  • Lighting is natural daylight supplemented with overhead and wall lighting. Candles are lit on tables in the restaurant.
  • There is no TV in the bar area.
  • There is background music in the restaurant area but can be turned down on request.
  • The flooring is wood in the bar area and short pile carpet in the restaurant and in the garden room area. The walkways are of a stone paved surface.
  • We do our best to cater for any dietary requirements; please contact us in advance with any specific requests. Where possible all our food produce is locally sourced.
  • In the bar area, food is ordered at the bar and brought to tables. The restaurant is table service, staff can assist on request.
  • Large print menus are available on request. Specials of the day are shown on a printed menus on the tables. All staff can assist by running through menus with you.
  • Crockery is colour contrasted with the table where possible.
  • There is no pool table and darts board in the bar.

 

Customer Toilets

  • Customer toilets can be found on the ground floor to the rear of the reception area / garden restaurant Area. Access is flat and carpeted to the WC’s from the reception and bar areas. There is level access from these areas to the unisex accessible toilet, described below:
  • Entrance door 850mm wide and level entry into the toilet.
  • Transfer space to the left of the toilet, when facing the toilet.
  • Toilet height is 490mm.
  • Vertical rails to the right of the toilet.
  • Horizontal rail on the side wall to left of the toilet.
  • An emergency alarm pull cord.
  • Dimly lit with overhead lighting and there is no light switch as it is activated with a PIR sensor.
  • Non-slip laminate flooring.
  • Lever taps on the sink.

 

Beer Garden/Outdoor Area/Smoking area

  • The Outdoor Area / Smoking Area is open all year round. A sheltered designated temporary smoking area is available.
  • These areas are situated to the rear of the pub; the smoking area is located adjacent to the rear entrance. Flat, level access to these areas is available at the rear of the pub where. Level access is available from the car park.
  • The entrance/exit door leading to the outdoor areas is glass with markings and lever handle. It is 7700mm wide.
  • These areas are flat.
  • These areas are all level and tarmacked. The smoking area has a tarmac surface.
  • There are tables and separate chairs which can be moved to give wheelchair access.
  • Drinks and food can be ordered and served at the table on request. All staff will be happy to help on request.

 

Accommodation – Bedrooms

  • There are 2 bedrooms with twin beds, on the ground floor, with a small step from the car park. On the first floor there are rooms with double beds and that are reached by stairs only.
  • The door to the ground floor bedroom is 670mm wide.
  • Furniture can be easily removed or rearranged in ground floor room only – please ask reception if you require this.
  • The height of all of the beds from the top of the mattress to the floor is 7800mm.
  • Rooms are dimly lit. Bedside lamps are also in each room.
  • All of our bedrooms offer the following: Lighting as above, good colour contrast between the floor, walls and doors, short pile carpet, a widescreen digital television with remote control, subtitle facilities.
  • •A Deaf Guard Alarm with flashing light and vibrating pillow pad are available on request at Reception.

 

 

Accommodation – Bathrooms, Shower-rooms & Toilets (Ensuite or Shared)

  • The ground floor bedroom en-suite bathroom offers the following:
  • Door opening to the bathroom is 670mm.
  • A step into the shower 250mm.
  • Seat raisers and shower seats available where required.
  • The wash basin height is 880mm.
  • Turn taps on the washbasin and bath.
  • Grab rails, horizontal and vertical, around the shower are not currently available.
  • A grab rail by the bath isnt currently available.
  • Horizontal and vertical grab rails either side of the toilet are not currently available.
  • Well lit with overhead LED lights.
  • Good colour contrast between the doors, floor, walls and with white wall tiles.
  • Non-slip laminate flooring.

 

Additional Information

  • All of our staff are happy to assist where possible, please ask if you require help.
  • We have a set of evacuation procedures – should you require assistance someone will help you with evacuation either out of the building or to a refuge. •We welcome trained assistance dogs. A water bowl is available for assistance and all dogs and one can be supplied for bedrooms where necessary.
  • Low energy lighting is used throughout where possible.

  • The nearest General Hospital with an A&E unit and walk in NHS facility is the Royal Devon Exeter – 4.6 miles away approx a 15 minute drive. The nearest doctor’s surgery is 0.4 mile away – Chapel Platt Surgery – please ask reception for details.
  • Free Wi-Fi Internet access is available throughout the pub.

  • The Malt House – the Pubs Function Room has been recently refurbished – it has an Accessible WC fitted – for more details contact the Reception.
